Abahana Villas - Spanish Formula Kite Championship in Denia.
It's an unmissable event on the national and international kite race calendar on the Costa Blanca. The Les Deveses beach in Dénia plays host to a week-long display of twin tip boarding (Kite Freestyle) and strapless surfing (Surf kite) as well as with SUP boards (paddle surf) and introductions to kite racing. In addition, there are activities such as exhibitions of mini cars and tattoos both on the beach and at the Royal Sailing Club.
The Spanish Kite Race Championships follows a route marked by buoys with a close hauled leg. Participants must do two laps in around 15-20 minutes. The sea, wind and light conditions make the event even more spectacular. Competitors must demonstrate their skill in all conditions; close hauled, abreast, upwind and changes in direction, gybing, tacking y roll tack. The fastest rider, the most technically accurate and the one with the best technique is crowned as Spanish Kite Race Champion, a prestigious title.
The categories are men's senior and women's senior, boys under 18s and men's master (35-44 years old) and men's grand master (over 45 years old). Fun and spectacle are assured, from the best Spanish specialists, such as the great Álex Climent from Valencia, ranked fourth in the world, to Miguel Villar from Murica and Catalan Nuria Gomá as well as excellent international competitors.
As well as the Spanish Kite Racing Championship, which uses boards similar to those used in windsurfing, visitors can also enjoy a Kite foil competition during the same week. Kite foil uses boards with a metre-long fin, which allows them to rise above the water and fly through the air.
As well as the Spanish Kite Racing championship, the Autonomous Community Kite Racing Championship is held on the same dates, as well as the first National AMATEUR Kite Racing and Free Racing Open, the National Kitefoil Open and the first National Kite Racing Teams Open.
The Dénia Kite Racing Championship is billed as a dream competition for water sports competitors, where sport, fun and professionalism go hand in hand in a championship which shines out for its unprecedented spectacle.
Mention that two weeks before the Regional Championship of the Valencian Community is held on May 25, 26 and 27, another excellent plan if you are on holiday in the Costa Blanca.
