Abahana Villas - Facade of the cathedral of the Marina Alta Benissa.
The Church of the Puríssima Xiqueta rightly inspires admiration for the local populace who helped to build it, and a visit is a must when holidaying in Benissa.
Work began in 1902 to build the Parish Church of the Puríssima Xiqueta in Benissa, constructed in the Neo-Gothic style with three naves, its key features being the beautiful interior skylight and altar, housing a reliquary which contains the board painted with the image of the Puríssima Xiqueta, attributed to the school of the painter Juan de Juanes.
It was in 1929, thanks to donations from a number of private individuals and the cooperation of the entire populace of Benissa, that the new church was finally consecrated, some years later replacing the former Fortress Church of San Pedro Apóstol.
