Gourmet Race 2024 announcement.
This is a really original idea: to win the race, there is no need for the yachtsmen to clock up the best time, what they have to do is man the ships' galleys and surprise the jury with their typically seagoing proposals.
The winner is whoever puts together the best and most original dish, using the most polished techniques.
The Gourmet Race Moraira is undoubtedly a great gastronomic and seafaring festival that all manner of motorized or sailing vessels can take part in. They do however have to be at least 8 metres long and there must be at least two crew members on board.
To participate in the regatta costs 200€ per boat, which includes the captain and a crew of four.
This amount also pays for the meal that is held to celebrate the prize giving ceremony - after the regatta ends of course.
The ships cast off between 9 to 10 in the morning, with an interval of three minutes between each one.
When they arrive back in port, at around 1 p.m., the crews set the dishes on dry land, and take them to the social club in the Marina, where an expert jury passes judgement and hands out the prizes.
The star ingredient in 2014 was lobster, and all the dishes had to contain this particular crustacean.
As has been the case until now, the last Gourmet Race was supported by a prestigious chef, none other than Joël Robuchon.
Other famous chefs made up the jury, including Kiko Moyá, Alberto Ferruz, Rodrigo de la Calle, Júlia Pérez, José Jover, José Ignacio Cuenca, Cuchita Lluch and Mitsugu Yasuda.
Not only that, the three editions of the regatta that have been held to date have always been supported by chefs and leading figures from the world of culture, such as Juan Marí Arzak, Paco Torreblanca, Susi Díaz, Quique Dacosta, Ricard Camarena or Ángel Corella.
No matter whether you are competing or not in the regatta, you can always visit the Marina and enjoy the activities and events that are organized around gastronomy and the sea such as sensory tastings, conferences, sailing, music, “gourmet rice” and many more.
Up to 2,000 people have turned up to take part in the unbeatable atmosphere of this splendid day.
