The Fallas of Valencia / Fiesta, gunpowder, color and fire.

For those who have not yet heard of the most famous party in Valencia and known throughout the world, we show you a review of the history of Las Fallas, falleras and pyrotechnics shows to bring you closer to this incredible event.

Las Fallas are the quintessential festivals of the cosmopolitan city of Valencia that are celebrated from March 15 to 19; They have a deep-rooted tradition in that city as well as in the rest of the surrounding municipalities and even in diverse towns belonging to the Valencian Community.
It is said that the first fallas date from the middle of the 18th century and were carried out in honor of San José, patron of the carpenters; They were originally small monuments of drawers with 3 dolls dressed in fabrics, cardboard masks and wax faces, they had a certain burlesque touch in which public embarrassment and neighborhood situations were exposed and then symbolically burned as a prelude to the arrival of spring. For its realization, all the residents of each neighborhood participated where the little ones walked in search of small rags and old furniture to incorporate them into each fault.

It was in 1985 when the creation of the prizes of those faults with better design arose, to which in 1901 the City Council of Valencia would also join. Thus began to see a more artistic side in its creation and less satirical so many neighborhoods began to hire artisans and artists thus creating the current trade of Fallas Artist.
With them, new techniques for the production of faults were incorporated, such as cardboard molds that have evolved to the current flaws of expanded polystyrene or white cork, materials that are molded more easily and that provide better aesthetic characteristics. That is why we can contemplate the magnitude of the faults generated today, where some already exceed 30 meters high loaded with a multitude of characters and objects. Normally they consist of a central figure several meters high, which incorporates other smaller figures and even posters with legends where it is explained, with a loaded critical meaning, to which each corner of the fault refers.

It is the 15th of March when the great day begins, "La Plantà" where everyone looks forward to being able to contemplate standing in all its splendor the artistic creations that sculptors, painters and carpenters have worked for a whole year. Then, a variety of pyrotechnic shows are those that are happening on the days of March. And is that one of the main elements that mark the festivities is gunpowder, in the form of the famous "Mascletá" where the decibels go up to make the ground shake, or the "Nit del Foc" where the sky is completely covered in colors that they leave one open-mouthed preceding the now famous "Cremà" which is when the fire is completely consumed by the fault.

Noisy mascletàs, falleros pasacalles where to observe the wonderful costumes of the falleras and their singular collected in the hair, color, streets decorated with lights, offerings of flowers to the Virgen de los Desamparados that with their smell flood the Valencian neighborhoods, fire .. .in these days the city of Valencia is preparing for what is already a festival of International Tourist Interest.
