Walk through the old town of Altea

Peaceful, narrow alleyways, whitewashed houses which in days gone by were protected by a solid city wall, an imposing church with its distinctive blue domes and impressive views of the coastline, revealing in the distance the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe.

Altea is one of the Costa Blanca villages which has most successfully maintained the appeal of a Mediterranean fishing village.

A stroll around the Old Town is a genuine adventure and pleasure, the cobbled and stepped streets, the houses of an immaculate Mediterranean white merging at the "Plaza de la Iglesia" are a real eye-opener for visitors used to finding other types of construction on the coast, while the viewing platforms are an outstanding place to catch your breath while taking in the delightful panoramic views.

The doors and windows are permanently adorned by jasmine, geraniums and bougainvillea, all plants which are particularly characteristic of Mediterranean villages, offering a touch of colour and life.

A stroll around the streets reveals that Altea is different, is another type of village, not just coastal but much more.

A visit to the craft stores, a sit down at any of the terraces alongside the Church of "Nuestra Señora del Consuelo", these are the little things which give this bohemian village of artists a different standing, entrancing visitors forever.

A walk around the Old Town of Altea is a remarkable experience which is simply not to be missed.
